Great interest in traditional handicrafts in Bursa

The 3rd Bursa Traditional Handicrafts Festival was organized by the Bursa City Council between 11-15 April 2018.

Thousands of residents of Bursa visited the 3rd Bursa Traditional Handicrafts Festival, which hosted the works of 110 artists from 35 cities in 82 different branches of art.

With the support of Bursa Metropolitan Municipality and the contribution of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism,  organized by the City Council, the 3rd Bursa Traditional Handicrafts Festival was held at the Atatürk Congress Culture Center Fair Area between 11-15 April. This year, for the first time, masters from Komotini and Kardzhali took part in the festival.

Bursa, the last stop of the historical Silk Road, protects its culture and history as a city of craftsmen with its historical bazaar and Khans included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Bursa citizens showed great interest in the 3rd Bursa Traditional Handicrafts Festival organized by the Bursa City Council between 11-15 April in order to support the traditional handicraft masters raised throughout thousands of years of Turkish history, to help their development and to keep their arts alive. With the support of Bursa Metropolitan Municipality and the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, 110 masters from 82 art branches from 35 cities took part in the festival for the first time this year, and the masters from Komotini and Kardzhali, which are among our heartfelt geographies, exhibited their skills. The anthems of the Mehter Team and sword Shield play entertained the participants, During the opening of the 3rd Bursa Traditional Crafts Festival, which included 82 different art branches such as Wooden Toy Making, Marbling, Illumination, Iznik Tile, Bursa Silk, Coppersmith, Needle Lace, Telkari, Traditional Turkish Archery and Patchwork, 17 artists from Bursa were given the ‘Handicraft Artist Certificate by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism’.

Thousands of students visited
Within the scope of the festival, marbling clothing fashion shows were organized by “Inspirations from the Past” by Emine Elmas from Bursa Maturation Institute. In the seminars, programs were held on “Tile Production Process and Iznik Tiles” and “Nature and Woman”, with Kocaeli University Faculty Member Dr. Nermin Demirkol and Iznik City Council Secretary General Havva Çandar and Leaf Art Master Ömür Köroğlu as speakers. Thousands of students watched Hacivat – Karagöz and puppet shows. At the same time, the students had the chance to follow the live performances of the artists closely by visiting the stands.

Great interest from the protocol
Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Alinur Aktaş, Deputy Prime Minister Hakan Çavuşoğlu, Former Minister of Internal Affairs Efkan Ala, Former Minister of Labor and Social Security Mehmet Müezzinoğlu, deputies, district governors, district mayors, provincial directors visited the 3rd Bursa Traditional Crafts Festival and received information about the stands and art branches from the Chairman of the City Council, Hasan Çepni, and the Local Agenda Branch Manager, Mahmut Turunç.
