Iznik Tile (Traditional Tile Mastery)

İznik Tile Art is important in terms of carrying the characteristics of Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman art. The Ottomans used tiles in the Yeşil Mosque and Tomb in Bursa for the first time in architectural works. Quartz, glass powder and clay are used in the production of Iznik tiles, which take their colors and patterns from the nature of Iznik. Chinese Model Motif,Hatai, Golden Horn Motif, pomegranate patterns, miniatures, Iznik bird, rose and carnation motifs are mostly used in Iznik tiles.

“Traditional Tile Mastery” was registered on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity on behalf of our country at the 11th Ordinary Meeting of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Intergovernmental Committee held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, between 28 November and 02 December 2016.
