Bursa silk in the world showcase

Bursa left its mark on the International Silk Conference held in Valencia, Spain. In the conference attended by the directors and representatives of Silk Museums around the world, the studies of Bursa Metropolitan Municipality on Bursa Silk aroused interest.

International Silk Conference was has been organized for the first time in Valencia, Spain. Bursa was represented by the officials of Bursa Textile Industry and Silk Museum at the conference held with the support of UNESCO Silk Road Online Platform, International Council of Museums (ICOM), International Art Education Society (INSEA), Valencia Museum of Modern Art, Valencia University, Valencia Tourism Agency and Turkish Airlines. Officials and representatives of silk museums from Spain, Italy, France, Georgia, Kazakhstan and Sweden attended the conference in Valencia, which was selected as the European Silk City by UNESCO.

In addition to the general introduction of Bursa, Bursa Silk was also displayed at the conference. On the second day of the conference, Nazım Enes Altan, from Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Museums Branch Office, talked about the adventure of historical Bursa Silk from past to present. Sharing the works in Bursa Textile Industry and Silk Museum with the participants, Altan mentioned the projects carried out by Bursa Metropolitan Municipality in order to keep Bursa Silk alive and transfer it to future generations. Altan also gave information about Bursa Metropolitan Municipality’s Muradiye Silk Factory, Umurbey Silk Design Center and silk activities in the mountain villages of Bursa and expressed the importance of Kozahan, the commercial center of Bursa Silk, on the silk road route.

Silk projects became a model

While the incentives of Bursa Metropolitan Municipality to develop sericulture in villages attracted attention, the participants who showed interest in the project after the conference received information from the Metropolitan Municipality Museums Branch Director Muhterem Çevik. During the conference, at which the general publicity of Bursa was supported with a video show, silk carpets and silk items produced in the Umurbey Silk Production and Design Center were also presented to the participants. At the end of the conference, Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Museums Branch Director Muhterem Çevik presented a silk painting with the figure of Karagöz-Hacivat to German Navarro Espinach, the host of the conference and one of the Directors of Valencia Silk Museum.
