Sultaniye Madrasah

YEŞİL (SULTANİYE) MEDRESE

Aside from the mosque, public soup-kitchen, school and an inn, the fifth Ottoman Sultan, Celebi Sultan Mehmed also built a madrasah. The madrasah is 100 meters southwest of the Green Mosque and because it is near the mosque, it was also named ‘’Green’’. With the construction of the Sultaniye Madrasah, the importance of the madrasah built by Orhan Gazi in Iznik was reduced to second level. Completed in 1419, today the madrasah serves as the ‘’Turkish-Islamic Works Museum’’.
