The school was built by Sitti Hatun who was the daughter of Oruc Bey, the son of Kara Timurtas Pasha and also the wife of Hamza Bey, the son of Zaganos Bey. Sitti Hatun also built a mosque in Bursa in the Kamberler Neighborhood. It is thought that the school was built at the same time as the mosque in 1459. The school is domed and masonry. The school and the masjid have undergone many repairs after they were established. They were seriously restored in 1959 and 1969 by the Bursa Association of Antique Lovers and opened for service.
The Kamberler Neighborhood where the Sitti Hatun School is located, has been transformed into a culture park within the scope of the ‘’Kizyakup Cultural Park Urban Design and Architecture Project’’ by the Osman Gazi Municipality.
